Ok, just a small brief - *all* copies of linux are licenced, whether you
get it from a friend, buy it from a distributor, or download it from the
net, all are licenced under the GNU General Public Licence.
Another thing, you may want to go in for a different distribution, RH 6.1
does seem to have a few security holes. Suse or Debian should be good.

For this, two things:
1. You can have your windows server and linux server on the same harddisk.
Use Samba on Linux to access the Windows harddisk from all your clients.
These (dumb) clients will connect to the linux server on start up. You
can also access the linux harddisk from the windows pc.
2. Check the diskless howto on the lug website for information on setting
up a diskless system.
