How difficult would adding a pmc-like interface be? That way users could 
connect to phc2sys using C code or any other tool and get the data they want in 
a formatted way?

I mean we already have code to support pmc in ptp4l, and I don't htink it would 
be THAT hard to extend similar code for phc2sys?
