What problems are you having?  FC2 (i386) was kind of a mixed bag on
my R3000Z, but almost all the issues I had were fixed by the time I
installed FC4 (x86_64).

One of the nice things about Fedora (and the reason I'm running it on
the 64 bit laptop, where I have Ubuntu on my desktop at home) is the
easy 32 bit backwards compatibility.  You can install the i386 RPMs
via yum and even cross-develop without driving yourself mad.

I can otherwise say nice things about Ubuntu, but I haven't run a SuSE
box in several years and have no relevant experience there.
