Thought I'd report that I'm having good success now with 2.6.14 and suspend2-2.2-rc9. It's much better than I've ever had before.
Previously resume took around 50 seconds and usually came up with a garbled display. Now it's taking <30 seconds and I don't have to rely on any hacks to get the artifacts off of the screen.
