Following up here...
I've since found that I generally get weird behavior if I suspend with a
usb mouse plugged in and resume unplugged, or vice versa.
"Weird behaviour" meaning that the pointer will move, but click events
are not received, or occasionally even X will lock up. It's interesting
that the mouse usually works for a few minutes before losing its mind.
For the last few days I've made sure to always pull the mouse before
suspending or resuming and it's come up and remained stable every time.
Hope this helps others who are playing/struggling with this.
