Gus,
Actually there was some discussion some time earlier about ram
replacement. You'll find an excellent description on how to "crack"
your case here:
http://www.r3000forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=8
and here:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00057181.pdf
I'd recommend visiting the Crucial website:
http://www.crucial.com/store/listmodel.asp?cat=RAM&mfr=Compaq&productline=Presario+Notebooks&submit=Go
and checking out their recommendations on ram. To the best of my
recollection it'll take DDR 2700 or 3200. with respect to throwing
money away ... best look at prices of 'faster' as apposed to 'slower' as
I've noticed often 'faster' is cheaper than 'slower' (
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Manufactory=1455&PropertyCodeValue=529%3A7864&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&description=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=381&Submit=Property
the difference between PC2100 and PC2700 is a buck $1).
Hope this helps,
op.

Hi all.
I am thinking about upgrading the memory of my 2.2GHz 3240 from 1 GB
to the full 2GB. Unfortunately, HPAQ populated both slots of my 3240
with 512MB sticks, so I have to take my laptop apart. So, I have two
questions:
1. What kind of memory (speed) I should buy? I guess it should be
fast enough so that it does not slow down the system, but not faster
than the system's memory bus, so that I don't throw money away.
2. I don't think the wiki about the R3000 explains how to take the
damn thing apart safely to upgrade the RAM. Where can I find this
information? I don't want to be forced to unscrew every screw I see
and then end up with a few unsued screws when I put this thing back
together!...
TIA
