Quite possibly. But you have not told us nearly enough.
Sorry for the lack of info I will fill in below.
What is your MUA (Mail User Agent)? I would guess that it is mailx,
the Berkeley mail program. Any reason you need to use that MUA? Not
that it is a bad choice.
I believe I am using mailx which is what I think came with my system.
What is your MTA (Mail Transfer Agent)? sendmail? postfix? qmail?
Something else?
I am using sendmail as the MTA.
What is your linux distro -- that might give some hints.
My linux distrobution is Fedora Core 4.
Some MUAs can talk directly to a remote mail server. For example,
PINE. That may mean that you can solve your problem more easily.
