I had a similar problem. My fan made so much noise I could barely use the computer. I cracked the case open and saw that the metal fan casing was bent (probably from me having the laptop balancing on my knee or something) so that the fan blades were touching the casing. I simply bent it back with a pair of pliers and it has worked great ever since.
