In CDT, when we launch a debug session, the user may need to choose a different GDB than what is on the PATH. The way we do this is that we have a UI box in the launch configuration dialog that defaults to 'gdb' but that the user can change to the location she needs e.g., /home/user/bin/myOlderGDB I'm curious to know if this is something you considered? I think it would fit well in the Valgrind plugin launch UI and would make it move obvious to a user.
