My version of a similar story: I recently had to buy myself a new laptop. I was told that Circuit City had a great deal on a Lenovo, so headed over to check it out. Great machine at a great price.
When i finally I got a sales person to help me, they went off on a litany of all the trail editions of MS crap on the machine including Napster. I stopped her and told her it didn't matter because all that crap wouldn't make it through the night. She said, "Oh so your going to install XP?" and I, of course, responded, "No Ubuntu." She thought it was a version of the OSX for the pc. A little back and forth asking what that was and me telling her about linux. When she was ringing me up she kept telling me that loading linux on the laptop would void all the warranties. I guess I'm just a rebel. I also take that tag off my mattresses. :P >From a personal stand point, I spent 3 hours with Vista home edition and that was way too long. Yay for 8.10! Moral is, I don't expect people to know what Ubuntu and Linux are (it'd be nice), but I do take the chance to enlighten people when they ask about OS or I hear they're ordeal with XPAntiVirus2008. And for all the Apple people who claim that OSX is the best, I politely remind them that it's based on Unix just like my OS.
