When n00bs ask which Linux distro they should choose, I often point them
to the distro's community, particularly various posts, FAQs, and wikis
created by the users and let them choose for themselves. I will tuck
this gem away for when some poor n00b asks about Slackware. (My bet is
that they'll instantly choose Ubuntu shortly afterwards.)
Many of us on this list cut our teeth on Slackware, and it's good for
what it is -- a no frills operating system that makes for a very stable
system and/or a great learning tool. Show me a Slackware box in
production in an enterprise environment, and I will show you a horribly
outdated box that is likely the bane of every sysadmin's existence. But
hey, Slackware puts hair on your chest, and if I'm to believe this
picture, helps one get the ladies, as well.

(You said that you wear three hats, but here I only see you wearing one.
Is this your commander, chief engineer or researcher/analyst hat?)
On a slightly different note (and one less derisive of Slack), those
wanting to listen to a kickass interview should check out this one with
Patrick Volkerding. I love his stories.

(I think this is the one with all the funny stories, but I'd have to
listen to it again to see.)
