The advantage to apt is speed and flexibility; it is just a program
that allows you to install apps via the command line.  The real
underlying advantage is the structure of the package management and by
association the dependency management when installing software off a
repository.  Whether you use apt, aptitude, synaptics, or you just
download debs and install them,  M$ and Apple have nothing that is
comparable.
