Given that I hate Ubuntu with a passion, I most certainly wouldn't want to run it on my phone. The only distro I would ever want to run on my phone would be one that I put together myself from scratch, as in Linux From Scratch. Granted, the efforts of putting unofficial distros (be it the Ubuntu crap or something else) on HTC/Samsung/whatever phones are valuable in that someone like me who likes Linux From Scratch should be able to look at those projects and see what kernel they use, what are their drivers for the critical devices, how do they talk to the (presumably closed and proprietary) cell radio block to make or answer a plain old voice call etc. But in my opinion the GTA02 from Openmoko is still better if I can get one and if it works with T-Mobile here: * I would much rather use a phone on which loading of my own distro is explicitly blessed rather than a dirty hack; * I like having a phone which comes with a debug board that provides access to the processor's true serial console; * I like being able to look at the actual hardware schematics for my phone rather than have to rely on reverse engineering.
