Evolution is a wonderful piece of software, is that the one that you're thinking of? We use Google Apps for our work accounts, but I use Evolutions to access some role-based accounts. > If I install gnome on my current system (running openSuSE but I don't think > it matters) I'll be able to log in on both and move data between the alarm > and email packages. Jeff, you can still run that KDE alarm app if you want. The way that KDE and Gnome work, you can run each others' apps on either desktop. Running Gnome desktop does not constrict your choices to only Gnome apps. If you have a KDE app installed, it will still run (it will directly load the KDE libs that it needs). Now, to migrate data from a KDE app to its equivalent Gnome app, it's very much dependent on the apps themselves: 1. If you're lucky, the Gnome app has an import function that can find the data from the KDE app and read it all in. I consider this a very slim chance, don't count on it. 2. If you're lucky, the KDE app might have an export function and can write it out to a tab delimited or CSV file. Chances are the Gnome app would be able to read those. 3. Look for some kind of migration utility. Again, very slim chance, I haven't even looked. Otherwise, I think you're looking at a manual transfer of data. Not fun. > If I do that, will I be able to delete KDE when I'm done? Should I? Or can I > just leave it, and not use it? Would doing that cause any problems or > instability in gnome? Nope, no instability. Feel free to just leave it, as long as Randall's comment holds true (i.e. you have plenty of disk space for it). Plus, remember that those KDE apps will still run under Gnome.
