That's what he/she thought about the Live CD and now they sit in the
middle of a mess.
Your suggestion comes a little late, don't you think? Get the current HD
issue resolved first, then confuse him/her with more options. LOL

details on what you did first, what you did next, until you
encountered the problem.
I say, it's a hard drive problem. I've been using Ubuntu's liveCDs
from various releases, and even resized hard drives with existing
OSes in them using gparted from the liveCD without any problem nor
encountered any hard drive issue so far.

Please boot from Ubuntu CD and run the following command
