Install the ubuntu-restricted-extras. Just search for restricted in
Synaptic or Software Centre or type sudo apt-get install
ubuntu-restricted-extras in a terminal window.

BTW, Ubuntu is not GNU/Linux. Debian is, but Ubuntu is just Ubuntu or
Ubuntu Linux. Just keeping the record straight. ;)
