Most people do not have problems like this. I have used Linux for a decade and never had this happen on my computers and I have used just about every distribution there is and done thousands of installations. It is harder to troubleshoot a problem if it is not widespread as few people have encountered it.
As for OS/X, you can have it. It is a closed OS made for closed hardware. That's why it works. I would not buy a Mac if it was the only computer there was and I write that knowing that my first computer was an Apple II. What I loved about the Apple II was that it was open and you could look under the hood and tinker with it. Apple has gone to the dogs, thanks to Jobs. Sure it makes money, but it is not the same company that it once was. It is just another version of Microsoft, but worse. They have taken from open source and give little back. They produced locked down hardware and dumbed down software for people who don't know the difference or care, IMO.
