I'll try it then.  The problem when I deleted LINUX and recreated the
MBR with a WindowsPE boot disk was that when I tried to boot the
WindowsPE boot disk from the external drive the MBR I created
apparently
wasn't for a plug and play device and would not boot the WindowsPE
program
from this external drive then, as before.  If I did what you said
first it probably
would have left the plug and play MBR on the external drive minus the
GRUB bootloader.  Hopefully fdisk will load up a plug and play MBR.
