Derp. It's `tar -xf $file`. tar is pretty much anal-retentive about
the f flag, otherwise it assumes your dumping data into it, like so:
curl http://cdn.fsdev.net/template_site.tar.gz > tar -xz
So if you add the f flag it should work just fine.
tar -xf flash_player_10_installer.tar
(Or whatever your file was named).
