I don't think anyone is flaming. This has been quiet for the last week or
so.

My opinion is the same. There are different kinds of users. Each has his or
her own needs. There are different distros to match those needs. Use what
you like and brag it up. But do not rain on someone else's parade in doing
so. Do not try to drag down another distro in promoting yours.

There is lots of anecdotal information about Ubuntu being slow and no
factual information. I posted the Phoronix link not to run down Arch. I
posted it to counter unsupported statements that Ubuntu was slow and that
Arch had some innate superiority. Phoronix tested that and found that
basically they are much the same. That does not mean that Arch is better or
worse, just different. It also does not make Ubuntu better or worse. Each
has its fans and that is great.

My bone of contention was and still is that people are spreading FUD about
Unity and Ubuntu whether this is intentional or accidental, I am not sure.
I don't even use Unity or Ubuntu on a regular basis. But I use enough
distros and enough desktops on the same computer to know that most
allegations against it are false. That still does not make me like it, BTW.
I am a KDE user and always will be. I don't care particularly what the base
is, but like the Ubuntu installer, large repositories and the community, so
while I have tried about everything I can find no compelling reason to
switch. That does not send me to every forum promoting Kubuntu and running
down the opposition. I don't see the need for it. People like water seek
their own level.
