I would suggest trying it out command line:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless#Manual_setup. If that works,
consider replacing Wicd with netcfg:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Netcfg. I had better luck with that on
my laptop when I was running pure Arch (I am now using Archbang).
