No offense, but IMO it seems to be less a problem of some driver but of different ways to configure attached devices. xsetwacom seems to work just fine! Now, instead of "simply" putting a GUI on top of that, Gnome's wacom control panel seems more to try to gain priority over xsetwacom by intercepting and blocking at least parts of its basic funtionality...
