One issue is that this step is not mentioned explicitly in part of the
documentation  about Debian! So I was not sure whether to copy that
driver  or not. (Well I am using XFree 4.3)

So you are using the wacom/usbhid driver(s) , which are shipped with the 2.6.15 
not
the one of linuxwacom-0.X.X? This did not work for me (2.6.13)
