After the drive spins up, you hear the clack of the brake, and then the head starts seeking around, right? It should be seeking around a lot, not just a blip ever second.

When I got my Lisa, its Widges was non functional. When I powered it up the drive would spin up, but it would just sit there, blipping ever second, presumably looking for track 0. In frustration I grabbed the head motor and twisted it a bunch. Then, low and behold, the drive started working, booted into MacWorks, and showed me all the previous owner's documents :P
