Sigma Seven Systems Ltd. and Vintage Micros, Inc. announce the X/ProFile(TM)

Apple ProFile, Apple Widget, Sun20 -- these parallel port hard drives use a
proprietary interface protocol to connect to historically important Apple
computers, namely: Apple Lisa (aka Lisa 1), Lisa 2, Lisa 2/10 (aka
Macintosh XL), Apple ][ and Apple ///.

As the original drives are now 20+ years old and new repair-parts are long
unavailable, it is no wonder that the number of working units is dwindling.
This style of hard drive is essential for most Lisa operating environments
and the Apple /// SOS, so a solution was sought to maintain operability of
these legacy computers.

We set out to develop a long-term solution to this problem, with emphasis
on maximum compatibility, flexibility, and performance. The result is the
X/ProFile.

The X/ProFile provides an interface between the Apple parallel interface
protocol and economical, readily available, and better performing IDE
storage devices.

With the X/ProFile you can:
 - Utilize economical and readily available IDE hard drives
 - Use the Compact Flash socket for the storage media or for backup
 - Use the Copy function for backup and experimentation
 - Attain a performance boost

In addition, when using the X/ProFile, a much larger drive can be used with
some operating systems -- you can use up to:
 - 5 MB in Apple /// SOS and Lisa OS 1.0
 - 10 MB in Lisa OS 2.0, 3.0, 3.1
 - 16 MB in MacWorks XL
 - 32 MB in MacWorks Plus 1.0.18 and Apple ][ ProDOS
 - 2 GB in MacWorks Plus II

To maintain collector value, when mounting the X/ProFile in an original
Apple product, no irreversible modifications are required. The universal
form-factor allows mounting:
 - internally in a Lisa 2 above the floppy drive
 - in an original Apple ProFile case
 - in another external case

Standard 40 pin IDE header and mounting holes allow easy installation of:
 - a 3.5" hard drive, or
 - a 2.5" drive (requires a common IDE cable adapter)

Compact Flash socket can be used for:
 - copying data from/to an IDE hard drive for backup/restore and
experimentation
 - main storage media

There are two main versions of the Lisa power supply, the higher capacity
"DataPower" power supply is strongly recommended when any hard drive is
installed internally in the Lisa, however working "DataPower" power
supplies are in short supply. Compact Flash cards provide rugged and
inexpensive storage, and of particular importance for those Lisa computers
with the lower capacity power supply, CF cards have much low power
consumption than hard drives, making internal installation of the X/ProFile
practical.

X/ProFile includes:
 - Mounting hardware for the X/ProFile, and 2.5" or 3.5" hard drive
 - Printed 40 page Installation Manual (includes 42 pictures)
 - Printed 48 page Operation Manual
 - 6 month limited warranty

When installing in an original Apple ProFile case, the X/ProFile Regulator
(available separately) is required. In addition to providing power supply
regulation, the X/ProFile Regulator facilitates mounting a hard disk beside
the original power supply.

X/ProFile Regulator includes:
 - cooling fan
 - Printed 38 page Installation Manual (includes 55 pictures)
 - 6 month limited warranty

Depending on your choice of storage device and installation, additional
items will be required, such as a Compact Flash card or an IDE hard drive
and IDE cable. If you are not replacing an existing parallel port hard
drive (ProFile, Widget, Sun20), you will also require an appropriate data
cable.

The X/ProFile and X/ProFile Regulator are available separately from Vintage
Micros, Inc. In addition, "Ready-to-Run" and "complete with pre-formatted
hard-disk" packages are also available.
