I've been in close contact with the Topica people and I am satisfied
that they have the list-owners best interests in mind.

I was talking to Cyndi Norman about this the other day - about
asking permission before using information. IMO, I have found that
most people don't mind if they're listed in the PAML. If anything,
it's the opposite, that a lot of people think they're being excluded
if they're not (which is certainly not the case). About a year
ago I started listing unsolicited lists. I was sure there'd be
this big backlash, but in that time, I've had 2, perhaps 3 listowners
ask me to remove the lists. (And in fact, people are surprised
to find I've removed their list after receiving no response to my
queries for updates.)

Then again, I get the list info from places like NEW-LIST, so it's
assumed that they want the list to be advertised in the first place.
Other people have told me they thought I everything in NEW-LIST as
a matter of course (I don't).

My problem is not with people listing, but with people who refuse
to remove or amend the information on request. Or who leave up
hopelessly outdated web pages or FTP archives. I get a lot of
complaints about other people's archives.

What it boils down to IMO, if you're dealing with information that
affects other people, then their needs should be taken into
consideration. But like I told Cyndi, I can't read minds....
