Hell, I'm still confused as to what the deal is. Does this function work
elsewhere (on IE) or not?

Obviously something is wrong with the browser. At this point, all bets are
off - if IE isn't working correctly, there's no guarantee that it will
handle JavaScript correctly. If you cannot reproduce your application's
errors on a confirmed working IE setup, I wouldn't bang your head into the
wall trying to fix an error on a faulty machine. Since I don't do ISP help
desk stuff anymore, my response is "call IT support" (hopefully that's not
you!)
