With my cfcPowerTools app, I have it set up to where it has to check a web service on my server one time a day (I set a session variable that times out in 1 day) to see if the app is still in trial mode. Once user has purchased a license(the trial is over), cfcPowerTools stops checking the webservice. If still in trial mode, then compares the trial start date to the time allotted for trial to see if the app should still work (this is what the webservice does).
By the way, cfcPowerTools is now available. (http://www.cfcpowertools.com). I plan on making a bigger announcement soon. (shameless plug)

Yeah, sounds like I'm not going to get what I want to do (the registration code idea) without giving up the nature of the application I'm building (one that can be totally and completely modified by purchasers).
OK, thanks all!

tonot really... the com object is what does most of the display... When I was at LFC, we had a doc management system that the web portion was in ASP... it used com objects to do all the work... we hated that application....

Yeah, exactly.
So the question is though (and this is where I don't know enough about ASP)... can't a person just comment out the call to the COM object and defeat this mechanism?

He's not trying to rip off this guys work. Jake is trying to figure out how he 'locked' the branding into the application...
Without looking at the code, he probably has COM object that does this... Alot ASP apps use objects to do this sort of thing...

All,
I've been trying to figure out something for months - I downloaded
howASP based Web Wiz Forums (very nice, by the way). They have a free version that has branding locked into the look and feel. To remove this, you purchase a licensed version and then input the serial number in the admin.
Granted, I'm not at ALL an asp guy, but I can't seem to figure out
Ihe's coded this so that I can't just comment out some lines of code and simply remove that requirement on the front page templates.
Does anyone have any idea how I could do something like this in CF?
intendeddon't want to encrypt my application, FYI.
Thanks! Jake
