Personally, I think that Access gets a bad wrap for not being more robust than it was ever intended to be.

I've run several sites very successfully off of Access in the past. Of course, these are small, limited usage sites, but using Access, I was quickly able to knock out functionality that I'd have needed have access to a net connection to develop or an expensive or complex server install to even use. (I do much of my coding on US-European flights)

That said, I think there comes a point where, as Daniel points out, you have to look at what you're doing and realize it's time to step up. 10,000 records and more than 5 users hitting it regularly? You bet you should move up.

Just because Access isn't SQL Server or MySQL doesn't make it bad! :)

I do not subscribe to "pirated" or pirating software.

I do believe in use of "free" and the reuse of public
access software.

Hopefully some other will provide some facts on MS Access.
Are we in a portentaly hazardous situation that wiht more
than 5 users the DB could crash?

Thanks & Regards

...or MySQL or PostgreSQL

(if you don't want to spend $$ or support the pirating of

software)

I have not had problems with Access having more than 10,000

records. In

fact, I have used it up to almost 100,000 records. It just

runs a little

slow. However, I have had tremendous problems with more that

six users.

Especially when they are trying to use the database at the same

time. I

would highly recommend upgrading the database to Oracle or SQL

Server.

Subject: Microsoft Access database

All,

I have a question about MS Access. I have been told in the past
that Access is not an "enterprise" database.

Also it shold be kept small with a limited number of users.

I understand that it should be kept to 5 or less users and
a size of less thatn 10000 records.

Is this information which I have received questionable.
Or basically true or YES it is TRUE.

We are well over 5 users and well over 10,000 records.
Are we in a portentaly hazardous situation?

Regards
Ray Hughes
