yes. one really doesn't need to index the folder that has nothing but

so I have to search each collection? can I make a collection that
searches collections?
When you do your search you can just provide a comma-delimited list
of multiple collections in the cfsearch tag.
I haven't tried collecting from other machines but do they need to be
"open". like, could I index a remote web server that requires an nt
login to view anypage.
If you mean index content on other machines, the user that CF runs as
on the server would have to have access to the machine. By default
the "System" account that CF runs as on Windows doesn't have network
access, so if you're talking about pointing to a network drive
(either mapped to a drive letter or using UNC notation) you would
have to change the user CF runs as. If you mean including Verity
collections that exist on other CF servers, with CFMX 6.1 you can't
do this, but it's my understanding you can in CFMX 7, although I
haven't tried this myself. You can, however, create the collections
on one server and move them to another, then the second server can
use the collections natively.
and I guess having different collections that would solve my path
problem? if I store to collection in the directory i index?
Right, I think this would solve the path problem if I'm understanding
you correctly.
