The state/government/society was ineffective due widespread violence and poor economy. But there's little to suggest that the leadership (legislature) could be expected to do much better. I am pretty sure Marina was not given any power, and certainly not any domestic power. She has a diplomatic mission to obtain outside help to improve Azadistan economy (by sending them solar energy). On paper (constitution) she might have the power to dissolve parliament, as customary for a "queen". But I am sure if she so much as breath a word to that effect, she will die a quick, forgettable death. Probably even at the hands of Shirin, her "adviser". > Having at least a certain amount of authority centralized in just one person > does have its advantages. No question, but Marina doesn't have any authority to speak of. She has a title, which can be taken away as easily as was given to her. She must have a small budget to fund the wardrobe, jewelry and servants to keep up at least some royal air. But even that might be monitored with a fine-toothed comb. How can I be so sure? Shirin, supposingly her adviser, treats her queen with mock respect but really like a child. The tone is completely the opposite from the conversation between Union President and his adviser, HRA Chairman with his people and amongst AEU leadership-committee. The chain of commands in CB is less clear for now, but still all the named characters are speaking in tones befitting his/her position. Marina is the only character who has a title but no respect. -- Dr. Core -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list
