I can't find anything useful on "Allelujah" on wiki.  Could you share what you turned up?

My guess is that Tieria puts too much faith in Veda.  Sumeragi's comments earlier on seemed to suggest to me that Veda was merely making guesses about what world would do, and then providing those guesses to Sumeragi so that Sumeragi could formulate plans appropriately.  So in episode 4, you have the scene with Sumeragi looking at six different possible hot spots wondering what to do, and then happy when Moralia suddenly starts trouble as it indicates which of Veda's estimates was correct.

That would make Veda determine the best course of action based on something similar to Asimov's "psychohistory", in which the broad course of the future can be predicted with some accuracy, but little things can't always be known for certain (and enough little things may throw the broad course off the track).  Evidently enough "little things" just happened to come together to allow the HRL to put this operation into effect without Veda being aware of it.  It's like the old mob psychology rule.  You can often predict what a mob of people will do.  But you can't predict for certain what a specific individual within the mob will do.  And that one person could end up derailing the mob.

I suspect that Graham's two wingmen are also of comparable skill with Ming.  The AEU on the other hand has been a complete disappointment to date, with even their "ace" falling rather quickly before the Gundams.  The only pilot that they've fielded that's lasted any time at all against a Gundam is the mercenary Ali.

I think humanity, and what people perceive as human, is a very important part of Soma's character (though this may not pan out in the end).  One thing that we saw early on is that while Sergei doesn't like the whole "designer baby super soldier" idea, and is somewhat disturbed by Soma's background, he does NOT have a problem with Soma herself and still sees her as a human being.  This is in direct contrast to the technicians, scientists, and other military officers, who constantly refer to Soma more as a thing than as a human being.

Hah, good catch! I was thinking the hair had an ambiguously masculine
look to it. Also I didn't know the "Hallelujah" vs. "Allelujah"
translations (from Hebrew?) until I looked up Wikipedia. These
writers searched far and wide for some obscure terminology and
variants eh... Now the little blurb about Tieria's "beauty" is more
in focus. Is it just coincidental that Nadleeh has an superficial
appearance of Virtue?

*snip*

OTOH, episodes 9-11 are now finally showing some sustaining story
arc(s). A few minorish points:

While Sumeragi blames herself for the tactical blunder, and Wang Liu
Mei named Schonenberg as some kind of spiritual mastermind, Tieria is
blaming Veda for failing strategically; particularly for the
unexpected appearance of an MS that can match Virtue 1-on-1. (1)
Tieria seems to put an unreasonable amount of trust in a computer; (2)
Veda is really expected to predict/plot out all the possibilities and
prepared responses; (3) Wang's comment supported Tieria's view that
each Gundam Meister is replaceable; (4) Tieria's and Wang's comments
both point to a bigger plan, beyond the violent quelling of all
violence.

On HRA, we have now firmly established a few things: those things from
Setsuna's youth are Anf's (Arabic for nose!), fossil-powered MS sold
by HRA to Middle East. The pilot suit of the La Idenda MA is also HRA
(old) design (manufacture?). I guess these are the AK-47 of the 24th
century. Also, HRA doesn't just rely on heroes like Sergei and Soma,
their support cast, like Ming, are pretty good soldiers, unlike the
AEU cannon fodders. OTOH, it's also possible that the writers just
arbiturarily dial up or down the ability of CB, AEU, HRA, Union etc
just to fit the minute-by-minute plot requirement.

It's perhaps possible to explain everything Soma did as robotic
devotion to the mission or HRA objectives. But I there are some very
human qualities to her words/actions during the mission. In the end
it was Sergei who made the rational but difficult decision to let Ming
sacrifice himself.
