I can't count how many animes I've seen where someone takes out a bento
on a bench, or buys something and eats it at a bench. If he had been
walking maybe there is something to it, but then again theres been a few
animes I'm sure where that has happened. I think this is a case of over
analyzing.

In the US, no one thinks twice if you get something to eat that can be
carried in your hands, and then slowly eat it while walking down the
street (perhaps while window shopping). You get an ice cream cone or
a hot dog from a vendor, and you eat it while leisurely strolling to
some destination further away.
I remember hearing quite a while back (I don't remember exactly where,
unfortunately) that this was not the case in Japan. According to what
I heard, in Japan eating while walking down the street is considered
to mean that you don't have anywhere to eat.
Does anyone know if this would extend to park benches as well? The
reason I ask is because of the park scene with Setsuna, where he's
sitting on the bench in front of the fountan eating something. I
don't necessarily know that it would lend any earth shattering insight
into his character, since if true it would simply emphasize the fact
that he has no real home (something that we already know). But if my
understanding of Japanese culture is correct, then it's yet another
little bit of a suggestion about Setsuna's status that the writers
have included, albeit one that isn't immediately apparently to Americans.
