Soma appeared to have the rough equivalent of a Newtype flash. There were no
special effects associated with it, but she clearly registered that something
was wrong BEFORE the beam from the Thrones pierced through the hanger wall.

Just on those two points.
1) Ali probably ends up with the missing GN-X. He does have a AEU cover
identity so it makes sense that it would come out of their allocation.
Either that or it's been taken apart for reverse engineering.
2) I don't think it was a Newtype flash at all. There was no special
effect that you usually see - just Soma reacting. I would say that her
advanced reflexes and vision probably was responsible - she saw the
blast earlier than the others did. We don't see the beam piercing the
wall after Soma's reaction - it was already well on the way when the
view switches from Soma to the beam.
