Esther Dyson writes:
+ Yes, it would be great to have a single, authoritative, reliable,
+ coherent, relevant list. However, if we (ICANN) started a mailing list
+ we would immediately get into a tangle over the rules, who sets the
+ rules, who implements them, who decides exactly how offensive you can
+ be, etc. etc. etc. Right now, we don't have the staff or the time to
+ deal with this. For now at least, we'll take the bottom-up approach and
+ let the lists continue to self-organize (or not).

Speaking from a position that was created by
mysterious edict and from the top down this
is a very strange statement. How about aplying
that same reasoning to all of your activities
and maneuverings? Regular citizens don't have
any say in your sacred deliberations and you
ICANN people won't dignify us with information
about your procedings. We ask for minutes and
records and involvement. You reply by saying
it's too inconvenient, we don't have enough
staff, yada, yada. And now we hear that this
allegedly "interim" board will create five (5)
new Top Level Domains, will take over the
functions of IANA, is moving fast on taking
over the RFC process of setting technical
standards. All without elections, any members,
any international sanction and so on.

Ms. Dyson cannot really be taken seriously
and her conspiratorial organization must not
only be debunked but also dismantled and an
adequate replacement launched. We move from
folly to even greater folly with Esther, new
Queen of the Internet leading those who would
most profit from this madness down the garden
cyber path to even more chaos and confusion.
Time for us all to wake up and smell the
 virtual roses... or worse.
