What may not be appreciated is that "the US Government"
is more than a couple of staff in the Executive Branch.
There are other Branches of Government that have an
equal role in determining policies. There are also
other independent agencies within the government.
The system is diverse and self-corrective - so that
when things get set off in the wrong directions, they
can be corrected.
