do you remember Bill Marmon asking you (about 8 weeks ago) if you
would defend ICANN in
a dialogue with me? I have published 3 interviews with you in the
COOK Report. I have treated you honorably in the past and would not
treat you differently because of an ICANN disagreement. But I am
also struck by how close you have been to the dveleopment of Icann
and how you have chosen say nothing about it or your role in creating
it other than to explain to jock gill last november that it was
necessary and he had just better get used to it. But no response to
my query to Marmon, so I guess that means you are so certain of your
position that you see no need to waste the time talking to me.
[Marmon is a senior MCI executive who produced Vint to write a
rebuttal for the COOK report to John Curran's march 98 talk on why
the acquisition of the of the MCI backbone by worldcom would be bad
for the internet.]
You might be surprised Vint if you had any real idea what people are
saying about you in private. Sure, now that Jon Postel is gone, you
are the one remaining Internet icon rather unlikely to be attacked in
public.
But someone needs to ask how you and mike roberts and joe sims can
justifys etting up a council of elders to rule the internet.....and
to do so in secret with no accountability to anyone? As jock gill
so properly asked you back in november ....from what unappointed god
head did the icann board spring?
Are you even vaguely aware of the number of people and interests that
roberts is riding roughshod over? Are you aware of stef's feelings
about what you have done? i don't expect you to treat my views that
seriously ...but when someone like Einar who helped you build the net
acts so eloquently to show how ICANN is betraying the principals on
which the net was founded....and of course not only these but also
the open bottom up principles called for by the clinton
administration, I thought ...maybe, just maybe *you* might pause for
thought....
How isolated are you vint? sitting here in russia it was obvious to
me how heath's picture juxtaposed with postel on the INET 99
brochure, is an attempt for Heath to assume the mantle of the
saint....just as stalin manipulated lenin's iconography shortly after
Lenin died.
You should have recived jay fenello's animal farm parody of
ICANN....you probably didn't see some other recent shrewd analysis of
the totalitarian nature of isoc and icann because it is on a private
list. It's time for your opponents to use the legal system to
destroy what you represent as a private sector response to keep the
internet free of government regulation....but which in reality is an
unaccountable body
operating in secret to give a small elite and their corporate allies
the chance to sew up world wide control of telecom and electronic
commerce for the next century.
How else do you explain your statement that an international
framework of laws must be created to leverage the economic value of
the net.?
The catholic church believes the end justifies the means....so do the
bolsheviks and so does ICANN...take your pick Vint....or come down
off your throne and justify in langauge better than don heath's
duplicitous
statements what roberts, sims, dyson and heath are doing. ICANN
will crash and burn..... and if you aren't careful it will tarnish
your reputation.
Sondow's choice of language when he attacked you for you internet for
everyone RFC
was very poor, but if you take your statement the internet is for
everyone and the reality of the icann imperial regime, the
juxtaposition of the two shrieks with hypocracy.
The tsar knew he was right, and so did the pope, and so did lenin and
i guess so do you..... is this what it has come down to vint?
how sad.....
You have to your personal credit one of the most important
achievement's of the 20th century.....and you are throwing it away.
But with any luck the structure of the internet may turn out to be
such that it will enable us to defeat you. if it does...creating
that structure will be your greatest acheivement of all.
