I think the operative thing here might be to ask a bit more probing questions. For instance, why do you want to set up this DNS server? I did read that you are looking for something simple and secure, but that is not a reason as to why you want it.
If you are looking for speeding up your network, there are some other things that you may not even know about that might make you a very happy camper, such as squid. If you are looking for keeping out spyware and/or content filtering, I would suggest OpenDNS. If you are looking for hosting your own aname/cname/mx records etc, then I'd point you in the direction of bind or some alternative to bind (notably, MaraDNS). Since you advise you're looking for security, and specify a DNS "server", I would presume you are looking for something more like MaraDNS. That'd be my recommendation, but I couldn't really make a full recommendation without knowing exactly what it is you're wanting to accomplish. Also, might want to consider that some ISP's come with free basic DNS hosting. Finally, since this is a linux mailing list, I would imagine the platform you're wanting it for is linux... but it would still be great if we knew for sure. Hope this helps!
