I think I have been using screen for 2-3 years now. I came across it during my Gentoo Developer years. Long after I had been using Linux. Though screen has been around for a very long time! Most common for Gentoo or other devs who are frequently on IRC to run a IRC chat client in a screen session on a server. That way no matter what machine they are on, etc, always have access. Also provides for ridiculous log in times ;) -- William L.
