Which plan did you go with?

I recently switched from Comcast/Xfinity to At&t's U-Verse. Mostly for
TV purposes, which seems to be superior to Comcast's TV services. Due to
specials and other fees, I ended up getting U-Verse Internet as well as
U-Verse TV.

You end up with two routers, one outside your premises HomePNA 2Wire
i3812v, and one inside 2Wire i38HG. The one inside is used for U-Verse
Internet and has wireless. The one outside is for all services,
Internet, TV, and Voice. They do not give you access to the external
one. It seems to create an internal LAN since the Cisco set top boxes
(IPN4320 & IPN330HD) have IP address 192.168.1.x. They are also running
Windows CE :(

With regard to U-Verse Internet I went with the Max Plus, 18Mbps
down/1.5Mbps up. Its definitely faster than regular ADSL being VDSL,
bonded. But the upload speed stinks, and it has massive latency compared
to my Comcast Blast Internet connection, 20Mbps down/4Mbps up. Which I
believe I will keep Comcast and drop At&t U-Verse at some point.

Here are some speed tests I ran day U-Verse was installed. Its still
here, just not using it, though might run some more tests.

Interestingly enough running the same speed tests on my G1 running
Cyanogenmod via T-Mobile. I got about the same upload speeds via my
phone as via U-Verse Internet. Download was much less, but still better
than most ADSL. Here is the speed tests I ran on my G1 using the Android
app from speedtest.net

Date,ConnType,Lat,Lon,Download,Upload,Latency,ServerName
"2011-05-13 13:08","Hsdpa","28.61850","-81.43360",2974,704,875,"Jacksonville,
FL"
"2011-05-13 13:05","Umts","28.61850","-81.43360",2998,591,972,"Jacksonville, FL"
"2011-05-13 13:02","Hsdpa","28.61850","-81.43360",2508,1332,145,"Orlando, FL"
"2011-05-13 13:00","Umts","28.61850","-81.43360",1780,1164,164,"Orlando, FL"
"2011-05-04 20:10","Hsdpa","28.61850","-81.43360",2432,730,484,"Orlando, FL"

I ran these tests from here in Jacksonville, but got better latency
using a server in Orlando vs Jax. Something to do with T-Mobile's
routing.

Anyway U-Verse Internet is definitely faster than ADSL for download. But
upload is not much more impressive. Latency all around is the biggest
deal breaker for me. Comcast still has much faster speeds and
considerably less latency. But U-Verse TV rocks, and I am rather
pleased. Even if the set top boxes are running Windows CE :(

P.S.
The U-Verse set top boxes have a feature to pull media from your home
network. But seems to require Windows Media Share, a feature of Windows
Media Player 11. Not sure if there is any Linux alternatives. Haven't
had time to look into that, but would be nice to be able to pull media
from Linux machines, not just Windows. Not sure about Apple's OS X.
