First and foremost: Happy New Year!!! Next... Linux basics: 1. try something cool out on linux...like setting up an iscsi-target. 2. try and figure out why it doesn't work... 3. RTM (perhaps that should be step one) 4. look at the log files and RTFM again. 5. post questions to the list.
So.. I have successfully setup slackware as an iscsi target, with a windows 2008 server as the iscsi-initiator and it works great for several days... But then something happens, and it stops working. But the problem is compounded by the issue of not being able to log-in to the target after the problem occurs. So the only thing I can do is power cycle the server. By not being able to log-in, I mean from the terminal and SSH, I am prompted for the username and password, but the session just hangs after entering the password. ( I have now left a terminal logged in, just in case this happens again). Now, I just changed the ietd ( iscsi enterprise target daemon ) to only listen on the Ethernet port of interest, instead of 0.0.0.0. Perhaps that will help. Only time will tell. And the log files are pretty useless too: /var/log/messages Jan 3 06:45:44 slack-storage -- MARK -- Jan 3 07:05:44 slack-storage -- MARK -- Jan 3 16:08:58 slack-storage syslogd 1.5.0: restart. (obvious clock adjustment is needed) /var/log/syslog shows nothing as well. Guess I need to RTFM again and focus on the logging section. Has anyone experienced this before?
