Wow, you guys took a very simple job posting and decided the sky is falling on linux administrators... I now feel like I should defend it a bit since I posted it, even though I'm not involved in the hiring.
First, tomcat.. Any experienced administrator should be able to run "yum install tomcat5, yum upgrade tomcat5, service tomcat5 restart", etc.. Maybe the occasional "tail /var/log/tomcat5/catalina.out" to assist in troubleshooting. That's about all they're looking for here. They're certainly not looking for a Junior level person to write/install J2EE applications. Second, I'd consider scripting languages necessary for any wanna-be administrator. If you can't whip up a quick awk, sed, perl, or python script to automate routine tasks you should look for another career. Lastly, HTML/CSS is a nice to have. They are essentially a startup, and team members wear a lot of hats. They do informally skew to DevOps, so having devs that can do some basic admin tasks (like restarting Tomcat after a deploy) and admins that know a bit about the web app they're supporting is a plus. A simple hobby site or "Web Sites 101" college course would suffice here. Again, it's a nice to have. No one is going to ask a Junior level administrator to fire up eclipse and hack out a data model. I thought the posting might help someone who is looking for work or knew someone in that situation. If they're not welcome here I will refrain from posting them in the future.
