In this economic climate it's vital that developers have sysadmin knowledge and sysadmin's have development knowledge. I don't consider it a "nice to have", but rather a must for consideration. The dual knowledge alone gives some insight into the talent, personality and work ethic you're acquiring. It's the new norm, I believe.
