It wasn’t my intention to slam the event. I based my comments on the many
reviews I read about last years’ ignite.

I am anti-negativity. You don’t need to slam one event to promote another one.

Dang it! You said that way better than I did!
“I would position Ignite and forward-facing, deep, and broad, with the standard
industry event flair. While Dev Connections is small, cozy, and focused on the
here-and-now for those that want to do their current jobs better or more
efficiently.”

Let’s start that discussion again ☺ Ignite is all of the above:
· Future-facing messaging delivered through keynotes and roadmaps
sessions, to tell you what’s coming.
· Deep technical content delivered through hundreds of breakout
sessions, focusing on currently-released and new products. On Windows 10
alone, we planned 100 unique sessions last year and expect the same number next
year. Yes, you’ll find marketing-led sessions from people like me (which are
still generally 200/300-level), as well as PM- and dev-led sessions at the 300-
and 400-level depth. And we bring in a wide variety of external speakers (MVPs
and other industry experts) to give you the real-world views, tips-and-tricks,
etc.
· Hands-on and instructor-led labs on nearly every product we make.
· Networking opportunities through a variety of different
organizations, events, and activities.
This is the one big IT pro conference that Microsoft will do every year. I
haven’t missed one for 20 years (and I’ve only worked for Microsoft for 12 ☺).
We also will continue to have WPC for partners, Build for developers, and
WinHEC for OEMs.
So I would position Ignite and forward-facing, deep, and broad, with the
standard industry event flair. While Dev Connections is small, cozy, and
focused on the here-and-now for those that want to do their current jobs better
or more efficiently.
Thanks,
-Michael

Not at all. Two different events completely. One is a messaging event, the
other is technical deep-dive and networking event.
