Hi! I've been tracking reaction to the NCTE participation in the LEARN act which is being submitted to Congress. Stephen Krashen has been spearheading some fairly pointed opposition, and generating a lot of publicity. Kylene Beers has now posted a response in her role as past-president of NCTE and someone who did participate to a certain extent in writing some of the language of the bill. If you're interested in the politics of literacy instruction, it's an interesting read. Whether or not we get discussion here out of it, I wanted to share it with anyone who might be interested. http://ncte2008.ning.com/forum/topics/kylene-beers-responds-to
