Barry Rowlingson has very kindly volunteered to pull together a skeleton for a PostGIS quickstart (after much pleading from me). I'm really appreciative as Postgis is such a key application, and Barry writes very well (you can see some of his handywork by looking at the R quickstart and overview).

Barry's question was what should go into a Postgis quickstart?
"maybe something like 1: load this shapefile into postgis. 2: fire up qgis, load postgis layer 3: profit??"

I notice there is an outstanding ticket for a postgis quickstart raised by Paul Ramsey here:
http://trac.osgeo.org/postgis/ticket/149

   * Hi!
   * Create database
   * Load data
   * query data
   * lat/lon vs cartesiasn
   * some queries
   * data onto gmaps

Is there anything else we should be considering?
Should we use a PG Admin interface or command line? (We should be targeting absolute beginners)
