Micha,
I'm tentatively in favour of creating a VM page, but have the following
concerns:
1. I think we have left our doc creation timeline a bit late for the 6.0
release. We are not leaving much time for review.
2. I'm a bit concerned that we may have created too much text for our
current ISO and VM creation quickstarts, as they have created a
maintenance load that requires tweaks with every release, both in
English and then into translations. (I'm nervous about the existing
VM/ISO docs being too large).
I suggest that we should:
1. Describe one way to create a VM inside OSGeo docs
2. Describe one way to create an ISO inside OSGeo docs
Point to wiki pages where we can describe multiple ways for creating
ISO/VMs.

Near to the release of 5.5 I threw out a suggestion to expand the docs regarding
using the Live DVD as a virtual machine. It was too near to final release so the
idea was put on ice then.
Currently we have the one document regarding creating a VM from the ISO image. I
thought to add an introductory "Advantages of running in a VM" document. Then in
that page, to have two links to more detailed pages - one a regarding
VirtualBox, and the second addressing VMWare Player. Is there any interest in
this?

Micha

Seems like a good idea to me. It would be good if someone out there
could contribute a Parrallels and if the VMWare Player also covered
Workstation.
So if there was a first "Overview of OSGeo Live on Virtual Machines"
document, then it would be easy to add additional detailed Howto's for
other VM platforms as linked docs.
Thanks,
Alex
