Based upon feedback so far, I'm incline to suggest that we include PostGIS 2.0 on OSGeo-Live (and no prior versions).

It seems like there will be a couple of projects which might need to make some tweaks to their applications, something that would be in the pipeline for these applications' development paths already.
So I propose:
1. We discuss this at our weekly meeting tomorrow:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/meetingdetails.html?year=2012&month=11&day=22&hour=19&min=30&sec=0&p1=179&p2=224&p3=240&p4=215&p5=136&p6=240

2. Assuming all agree, test installing PostGIS 2.0 only for the next few OSGeo-Live builds. If a showstopper issue is found, then roll back to 1.5.2-2. Our key criteria is that all quickstarts work, and applications which can connect to a Postgis data source have been tested to see if they can still do so, at least for a simple case.

Just to clarify, recent versions of GeoServer do support PostGIS 2.0.
The above was just an explaination about how GeoServer supports PostGIS versions between 1.2 and 2.0 by recognizing the version of the DB it's hooked against, and issuing the right SQL accordingly

my understanding of this email is that support for PostGIS 2.0 is done in the current released GeoServer
