Hi Matthias,
During the build process, we check to see if translated docs exist, and if not, we link to the English documentation. (See http://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/browser/livedvd/gisvm/trunk/doc/Makefile , look for "link_to_en_docs")

A crude way to link to English docs is to remove all out of date translation docs. I would prefer we don't do this, as we are loosing all the hard effort a translator has put in place.

A simple and hopefully effective way is to approach the authors of the translations of your doc and ask them to update your translations. (Check logs for usernames)

A better solution, which will require some programming is to check version numbers of English and translated docs, and if translators are out of date, then insert a line "Please refer to English documentation which is more recent". This should slot into the Makefile. You can also refer to http://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/browser/livedvd/gisvm/trunk/bin/extract_doc_versions.pl which is used to build:

Then I should propose to set the documentation all to English.

I try to find out how I can do that.

Kind regards,

Hello, sadly I saw that the documentation we provided
is not translated correctly from English to other
languages. (Some translations are old rel 1.14 <> rel
1.8) Can someone translate this from English to other
languages? Or should Geomajas do it ourself? The
documentation can be found on the latest release of
the OSGeo 8 dvd. And also here:

If it is not needed to be translated I can set it on
English for all parts. Kind regards, Matthias

The projects are not necessarily responsible for translation
of the docs. Additional volunteers from the project or
elsewhere are always welcome to contribute. We keep track of
translation status on the following pages:
        http://adhoc.osgeo.osuosl.org/livedvd/lang_stats.html
        http://adhoc.osgeo.osuosl.org/livedvd/translation_status.html
In the event that page is way out of date we can set that
particular page to show the English variant instead. For
obvious reasons that's our last option.
This raises a good point. I wonder whether we could add in a step into
our build process which checks the version of translated docs, and if
the translation is older than the English version, we inserted a line
"This translation has not been updated to the most recent English
version. Please compare with the English version for latest details".

    Matthias,
Some projects do take responsibility for updating some of the
translation pages themselves. However, it is not a requirement.
