OK great. I will put in my two cents worth. And yes, I do have some experience with firearms and how to use them for combat.
I believe in the right of self protection. BUT, a lot of the world does not. What is more, you are at risk a lot more if boarded by armed thugs while on your boat at anchor than if someone breaks into your house. In the Navy, it was just plain dumb to go into a bar that was well known as a dive where sailors were mugged. I think the same thing applies to cruising, the best offense is a good defense in this case that means prior information and avoidance strategy when appropriate. After all, even if the odds are so good that with proper arms and preparation, 98% of the folks attacked will most likely survive, that is not good enough if it is your wife and/or kids who are part of that group the 2% comes out of, for what, cheap beer and good dinners? Not me. In the US we still have the right (in most places)to defend ourselves with force if needed. I try to avoid hanging around in those parts of the world where I do not have that right and where violence is not all that uncommon. (This includes a lot of Washington D.C., for example) There are many other beautiful areas in this good earth where these sorts of things are not a problem, and the beer is cheap and the food is great. And a lot of the time (most of the time?), those places are away from the 'herd' which attracts the predators anyway. Having said all that, if it must be, Tarus makes an excellent .410 shotgun revolver handgun that would be unbelievably devastating to boarders at close range, and a gasoline moltev cocktail bursting into a small boat would give any half sane would be shooter on board her pause. You might just survive if they are not numerous and too drunk. ;-) -Ken _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://www.liveaboardnow.org/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardnow.org/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
